Students broaden their horizons through the exploration of dance, music, theatre, or the visual arts at the prestigious Institute for the Arts (IFTA) summer program.

This unique Fairfax County Public Schools fine arts opportunity is open to students enrolled in grades 6-11 during the 2007-2008 school year. Students select four 60-minute courses to attend daily creating a summer experience to remember.

WHY IFTA?

Now in its 21st year, IFTA has earned an unparalleled reputation for cutting-edge instruction in the arts. Students will gain exposure, skills, or mastery within one discipline or within a variety of fine arts offerings. The choice is theirs!

Robinson Secondary School, 5035 Sideburn Road, Fairfax

TUITION

$750 for Fairfax County residents; $950 for non-Fairfax County residents

This summer don’t “stick to the status quo,” it’s YOUR turn to take center stage!

A cool 3-week special event where everyone is “in it to win it!” We are looking for teens with theater and/or music experience (drama, plays, choir, etc) who want to be part of the Park Authority’s production of High School Musical featuring the original Disney movie songs and characters. Don’t want to act? Get in on the action and join the behind-the-scenes crew!

Ages: 14-18 yrs

Location: Annandale High School

Rehearsal Dates/Times: June 23-July 11, Monday - Friday, 9am-2pm, except July 4 (closed)

Show Dates/Times: Friday, July 11 at 7:30pm, Saturday, July 12 at 2pm and 7:30pm

Fee: $270 per participant. Program Code: 300 221 6001 (the reduced fee for income eligible or public assistance families is $75 for the 3 weeks)

This summer 40 performers from the Metro area will have the opportunity to work with a full faculty of seasoned Broadway performers as well as producers, casting directors, music directors, voice over artists, and composers. All selected performers will audition for a Broadway Casting director from "Telsey and Company" which is the hottest agency casting for Broadway and National Touring today with such shows as Wicked, Hairspray, Rent, Disney's High School Musical, Grey Gardens as well as Off-Broadway, TV and commercials. An audition is required for acceptance.

The popular Summer Intensive Program offered by the South’s largest art school, VCUarts, is set for July 13 – August 1, 2008.  High school students from far and wide will once again descend on Richmond to immerse themselves in Animation, Art Online, Fashion Design and Merchandising, Filmmaking, Photography, Theatre, and 2D/3D Portfolio Building.

This eye-opening program allows students to explore their interests, learn valuable skills, test out a potential college major, prepare for the college application process, make new friends, and have more than a little fun.
